BTW, what you can actually control via hamlib depends on the capabilities
of the radio. So, yes, assuming the radio allows direct frequency entry,
reprogramming channels, etc., hamlib gives an interface to these
capabilities.
As an example, I've got a 706mk2g as one remote-base. From the AllStar
side of things, this radio just looks like a regular old simplex
node--nothing fancy. To accomplish frequency agility, I use a trivial web
interface and some simple macros accessed via DTMF.
In the case of my 706mk2g, I have it "channelized" (no direct frequency
entry), since I'm using it mainly for VHF/UHF, with minimal HF. The main
reason for being channelized is the annoying limitation this radio has
that there is NO way to control PL tone setup via the CI-V interface! So,
if you want/need to use PL tones for repeater access, etc., you must
pre-program radio memories with the proper setup....Again, this isn't a
hamlib limitation, it's a radio limitation....So, depending on the radio
in question, the actual capabilities are dependent of what it allows you
to do--which sometimes ends up different than you might expect!
