[arm-allstar] Echolink Policy

Technically it is really a moot point as anyone using it on Allstar is violating item #11. As far as computer connections they are referring to other systems that make computer connections not Echolink itself. That is because they don't think other services impose license verification as well as they do. Also even turning off or not using your local computer connections does not do the same for someone connected to your on Allstar.
I am just pointing out the facts here. How you want to use it is up to you. I just think abuse could lead to total restriction. It happened with IRLP. Also anything you say on here or any other forum is out there for public view. All you have to do is a Google search for Echolink Allstar and you will eventually see all these messages. So they probably know whats going on!
My question is why all the hoopla about Echolink. Lets play Allstar!

What if you disable direct access via computer by not allowing IAX connections?

Don't agree with it either as they contradict themselves In #4 by providing direct computer access software not to mention smartphone apps! There audio quality unlike Allstar and IRLP ls poor at best. Even though I have it available for my friends I encourage them to switch to Allstar or IRLP

Since there are so many questions about Echolink both on here and the app_rpt group I thought I would remind everyone that we technically are using Echolink against their policy. This is Allstar and for the most part you should be using Allstar for your connections. Echolink is there as a possible way to occasionally connect users that have no better way to get in. I have it setup on my hub and 90% of the time the connections are from our own Allstar users that don't have a node nearby but have a smartphone and can easily get in on Echolink. The audio quality is noticeably worse than Allstar but it works. This occasional use although against policy is not pushing the envelope too much. So before Echolink admin comes down on us and stops connections altogether lets not abuse what we have. If you have a buddy or group on Echolink you continually connect to try to get them involved in Allstar. It will solve the problem and your connections will be much more pleasurable.
Here is a link to the Echolink policy. I don't write it nor necessarily agree with it but as a private system it is their right to set conditions. In particular see items 4, 11, and 13.
