All I can say is soon but due to family commitments and that it is vacation time here in the states things have been delayed. We have discussed this among our group and I will also say again that  either way you need to build electronics and the apprehension towards modifying the FOB is really unjustified. It is not that hard and you really have little to lose in trying. On the other hand if you spiked the I/O on the main board you might be looking at replacing a much more expensive item. Having wires running from two different places just makes for a sloppier and more prone to problems installation. That being said you will have the option in the next version when it comes out.

Also there is now GPIO support on the Pi release for general purposes. That is used now in the shutdown mod -
