Aha! ...Interesting. For now, until you've got a workaable router, you
might consider bypassing the router entirely and just using the hotspot
for access. That would require a WiFi adapter to plug into the BBB. I'd
recommend using an Ethernet-attached adapter, not USB. Something like a
Ubiquiti LocoM2 or Picostation. I've used both of these and know for
certain that they work very well with no software changes. Then, use
OpenVPN (already installed on the BBB) to access a VPN provider if
needed. I know this works, too.
